CONNECTING PEOPLE AND PLANET, ALUNA IS A BEACON FOR A NEW EMERGING CULTURE

Located at 0° longitude on the Greenwich Peninsula, Aluna will be the world’s largest Moon and Tide Clock. Larger than Stonehenge, three vast recycled glass rings will track the Moon’s cycles and influences on the Earth with slowly moving light.

Designed by artist Laura Williams as a place of celebration and connection for people and planet, Aluna’s rings will create a public space for international festival, education and community events. Sustainably built and powered naturally by the Sun’s light and the Moon and River Thames’ tides, Aluna will run for generations to come. Aluna is time and place for everyone.

A Place Where Time and Tide Meet

Aluna will be built at a spectacular location on the intersection of 0° longitude and the historic tidal Thames on the Greenwich Peninsula waterfront.

London and our nation’s diverse cultural and maritime heritage has been a direct result of our innovation in navigation and timekeeping, including a sophisticated understanding of the Moon and tides. Bridging the past and the future, Aluna will be the next in line of world-famous influential timepieces associated with Royal Greenwich.

When we watch the Moon in London and the UK, half the world is watching it with us. Aluna is a symbol of global unity and a beacon for a new emerging culture, as we learn to understand and care for the Earth and each other, transform our cultures and technologies, and transition to a zero carbon, socially just future.
WHY

“This place in the Cosmos is a special place, and we are its stewards at a very special time. This is the first time in history the future of a planet is in the hands of one species – us. Aluna speaks to this moment in human and planetary history where we are facing unprecedented environmental challenges. We need to pull together around hopeful and inspirational visions, and Aluna is just such a project.”

Lord Martin Rees, Astronomer Royal, Aluna Honorary Patron
